Insert Category and Subcategory

Overview

The Insert Category and Subcategory functions contribute to creating a well-organized and searchable inventory system. Especially when dealing with a large number of diverse items, these functions allow for advanced categorization and subcategorization of your items, enabling you to find them swiftly and effortlessly.

For example, a broader category could be “Grocery” for items like “SOS Sugar 5KG”, while “Sugar” could serve as the specific subcategory. Similarly, “Stationery” could be the category for “Big Blue Pen”, with “Pen” as the subcategory. This level of categorization not only makes item management more efficient but also allows for more precise reporting and filtering.

Steps to Insert a New Category and Subcategory

To insert a new category and its related subcategories, follow the steps below:

1. Navigate to the Commercial Module Main Menu.

2. Click on “Insert Category”.

3. For a new Category: Enter the category name, then add the related Subcategories in the designated space below.

4. For a new Subcategory under an existing Category: Use the navigation arrows at the end of the window to find the category. Once you have located the category, you can add the new subcategory in the table under the category name. If you can’t find the category, close and re-open the window, then enter the category name as new before adding the subcategories.

Remember, your categories should give a broad definition for the item. Subcategories, on the other hand, will provide a more specific definition. As a result, you can easily filter items in other windows such as PRs, by choosing the category and subcategory from the dropdown menus. This way, item search becomes faster and more convenient.
