Overview

The Assets Configuration Manager (ACM) allows users to manage and save specific configurations for assets based on their serial number. This functionality is crucial for IT departments or any environment where the configuration of assets is paramount. ACM ensures each asset’s configuration is recorded, organized, and easily accessible.

Key Features

  1. Asset Identification via Serial Number: Assets are identified and queried based on their serial number.
  2. Tab-based Organization: Configuration details are systematically categorized under tabs – General, Credentials, Network, Recovery, and Remarks.
  3. Autosave Mechanism: The form has an autosave functionality to prevent unintended data loss.
  4. User Attribution: Any configuration saved or updated is tagged with the logged-in user’s username, promoting accountability.

Using the Assets Configuration Manager

1. Asset Configuration Retrieval or Creation:

  • Input the asset’s serial number in the SerailSrchbox.
  • If the asset configuration exists, it’ll be loaded for review or updates.
  • If not, and the serial number matches an existing asset in the database, you’ll be prompted to create a new configuration.

2. Configuration Details:

  • General Tab: Input or update the standard settings of the asset.
  • Credentials Tab: Capture usernames and passwords. Handle this tab with care due to sensitive information.
  • Network Tab: Record the IP address, gateway, subnet, and MAC address.
  • Recovery Tab: Essential for IT departments, store recovery processes or backup data paths.
  • Remarks Tab: Additional notes or remarks about the configuration.

3. Saving Configuration:

  • After updating the necessary fields, click the SaveButt to store the changes.
  • The currently logged-in user’s username is saved alongside to track who made the changes.
Tips:
  • Data Validation: Ensure that the serial number entered matches an existing asset. The system will prompt you if it doesn’t.
  • Sensitive Data: Given that credentials might be stored, ensure this form has restricted access only to trusted personnel.
